City man arrested in Texas killings, Police think suspect has lived here since the deaths in 1991

Eight years on the lam ended today for Robert Burns Springsteenwhen he was arrested by Charleston police for the 1991 murders offour teenage girls in Austin, Texas.

Police believe Springsteen, 24, has lived in Charleston since thecrimes were committed. The girls who died were tied together andeach shot in the back of the head, news accounts of the crimestated.

The killings shattered the community in Austin where the girlslived. Each year on the anniversary of the deaths, students atLanier High School wore buttons that said, "We Will Not Forget" andpledged to continue the ritual until the case was closed.
