William Eddins brought dynamism and assertiveness to `A Soldiers Tale'

Conductor William Eddins provided a convincing demonstration of fine artistry and amazing continuity to Stravinsky's "A Soldier's Tale" to climax last week's sub-scription concert at the Symphony Center complete with actors, dancers and narrator.

Architect Rafael Violy, who recently was involved with the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, designed the stage set and Martin Crane served as the narrators.

The musical theatrical piece was Stravinsky's concept of a soldier's fateful pact with the devil and was presented on this occasion in collaboration with Steppenwolf Theatre.

Eddins swept through the piece with a fascinating, humorous concept.
